Silver Lake – Winnipesaukee River
Description
Silver Lake is located in the towns of Belmont and Tilton, in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. It is part of the Winnipesaukee Watershed and covers approximately 202 acres of land (NH Fish and Wildlife). The Lake has an average depth of 7 feet, with a maximum depth of 23 feet (NH Fish and Wildlife). It is the home of several species of fish including bass, trout and pickerel. The Silver Lake area boasts several species of birds including bald eagles, loons, ducks, and cranes. Additional wildlife such as turtles and freshwater mussels can be found in various areas of the lake. Public access for Silver Lake canoe and kayaking is available at the power station just downstream of the Lochmere Dam. Motorized craft, as well as canoes and kayaks can also access Silver Lake by traveling upstream, from the DOT Boat Ramp on Shaker Road in Northfield.
